In Conclusion

I have been deliberating about whether to set New Year’s Resolutions for 2011, after having had many many years of them not really working for me and indeed making me disillusioned with myself. Thank you to everyone who has sent me advice and encouragement on this subject.

My conclusion is that I am going to have overall themes rather than resolutions for 2011 and then add to these monthly achievable goals to move myself forward. As I was typing those words this felt absolutely the right way to go.

So my overall themes will be:

Fitness – with the view to increasing my stamina and body tone.

Health – aimed at reducing my weight and sorting out niggly small health problems.

Writing – increasing my output, finishing projects and marketing my work.

This sounds much more positive than the resolution stick to beat myself with. What do you think?

  1. Very good ideas, Morton. You need achievable goals – SMART ones in business terms.

I always say a diet isn't for just after Christmas, it's for life ๐Ÿ˜‰

And as with writing, to a certain extent you have no control over whether it will be published or not, you've just got to do the best you can. My goal is to put more out there, so hopefully I do get a published/paid piece ๐Ÿ˜€

    Happy New Year!

p.s. how do you get those bars for your work in progress… I really like those ๐Ÿ˜‰ Looks like you have three novels on the go!

  2. Nas – Happy New Year to you too.

Teresa – Lol my goals will be SMART. I once was told how to eat an elephant – piece by piece – so the goals will be monthly and monitored. I laughed as I used to have 50 staff to set goals for!

The side bars are a little primitive but available here http://www.languageisavirus.com/nanowrimo/word-meter.html#

Serenity Woods also has some from a different source on her blog http://serenitywoods.blogspot.com

I have three novel actively on the go and another three bubbling away. Mx

  3. Good luck with those Morton – it seems that you've got the right idea with monitoring them monthly. And all totally achievable (what I mean is, you've mentioned nothing outlandish!) so when resolutions turn to life changes, it's all good ๐Ÿ™‚ x

  4. Hi Girls,
Thank you for your comments. I am feeling good about January's targets already.

Ellie, I am relying on you to say to me on the last week of the month – 'How are your goals and have you set the ones for next month'. Oh and make sure that is when we are cafe writing, drinking coffee and munching chocolate! Looking forward to 2011 and even more fun. Mx
