Celebrating Publication Day With An Extract of Summer at Lucerne Lodge

My sixth novel for Choc Lit Summer at Lucerne Lodge is out today (20 April 2021). Thank you for all of the support on social media.

I thought it might be nice to celebrate by sharing a short extract of the book.

About Summer at Lucerne Lodge

Could a beautiful old house and a handsome stranger hold the key to a life-changing secret?

Rosie Phillips could be forgiven for not being immediately won over by Tanner Bryant. After all, their first meeting involves him knocking a tray of prawn cocktail over her very expensive dress at a charity event in the grounds of Lucerne Lodge.

But little does Rosie know how pivotal that awkward first meeting will be, or how the Lodge will become the unexpected backdrop for a summer spent finding out who she really is, and who she could be …

Extract from the beginning of the book:-

Chapter One

Tanner Bryant looked closely at the photograph of Rosie Phillips. Who exactly was she? The mystery was quickly becoming an obsession.

Looking at Rosie’s face had provoked that little tingle in his throat, the one he got if he found something – or someone – exciting and attractive. No, Tanner, don’t get carried away. You need to be sure of her link to your father first. But the attraction was there, no matter how he fought it. People talked about love at first sight, but love at first sight of a photograph?

He placed the picture back on his father’s desk and went to check his bow-tie in the mottled mirror. As he stared into the antique glass with the heavily decorated gilt frame, he wondered vaguely why he didn’t just use a bow-tie on elastic – but it had become a matter of pride and determination that he remembered the sequence of juggling the black silk and moulding it into a decent knot and bow. He smoothed the fine black wool of his dinner jacket and tugged at the cuffs of his dress shirt so that the cube-shaped jet cufflinks showed beneath the sleeves of the coat.

Moving back to the desk and like a moth to a flame, he flipped open the bulging blue folder yet again. He sorted through the photographs and papers, and pulled out his favourite picture of Rosie. In this candid shot, she was getting out of a small red car, her long legs clad in jeans and her blonde hair, caught by a sudden gust of wind, swirling around her face.He spoke aloud to her image. ‘Who are you, Rosie Phillips, and why has my father shown such an interest in you?’
