I don’t think you can underestimate how being with like-minded people can lift your mood and increase your motivation! I spent Saturday in Birmingham at a writer’s event and although it was absolutely exhausting it was also very inspirational.

The RNA (Romantic Novelists’ Association) Summer Fling had a packed programme of speakers and in the breaks there were so many familiar faces to catch up with. Of course, there wasn’t time to talk to everyone and I’ve even discovered that some friends were there who I didn’t even see during the course of the day.
I travelled by train and two writing friends Georgia Hill and Janice Preston joined me from two different stations on route.
The venue was amazing. We were in the ballroom of The Grand Hotel in Birmingham and I’ve seen so many photographs online of the ceiling already as it was truly spectacular.

We were treated to workshops on:-
- character mottos, very enlightening and helpful
- saggy middle busting, again so useful for when you are stuck in the doldrums of a story as so often happens
- a very packed and speedy presentation on marketing
- how to build a career as an authopreneur – very thought provoking
- the secrets of a best seller – fascinating
- how to rev up the tension in a romance
- time management and procrastination tips – always helpful and my fav one was to have special writing trousers lol.

We even managed a group photograph of the Birmingham RNA group – I hope they don’t mind me borrowing the image …

The day definitely made me want to attend more events. I now need to sit down and go through my notes in more detail, but the day seemed to unlock my stuck feelings and I began writing again the next day. Long may that continue and thanks you to the organisers and speakers.

Living close to Birmingham all my life I’m familiar with this beautiful old building, it’s so much nicer than where we’re keen to replace them with new monstrosities. I’m glad you had a lovely, refreshing break, you deserve it!
Best wishes,
