Using Your Sense Of Sight

This is the second of a short series of posts to give some simple tips and gentle ideas to try to increase your wellbeing, instigated by several friends who are finding mornings in particular a challenge at the moment. Please let me know if any of these ideas are a help to you in the comments and please share them with anyone else who is struggling.
This week I want to talk about your sense of sight. Please be aware that some of your senses will be more dominant than others, so not every idea will work for you. The sense of sight is actually a huge topic, but I thought I would share a few tips that seem to work for me particularly in the morning.
Try to make sure that things you see when you wake up and are getting ready for the day give you joy! For example, I have a bathmat that makes me laugh, my favourite crochet blanket and the little stuffed dog (which I bought when my little dog sadly died last year) close to me. All of these things never fail to make me smile.

Converserly, if something in your morning environment makes you feel sad when you see it, then try to change that if you can. Put a colourful throw over that tired chair, put a happy picture over that crack on your wall, move or give away anything that makes you feel a negative emotion.
One thing I have also noticed is that when someone is feeling sad and unhappy, they unconsciously tend to dress in either black or drab colours, so pay attention to what you choose to dress in and try to incorporate colour to lift your mood. (I’m wearing a red t-shirt this morning).
To summarise using the sense of sight – try to surround yourself with things that make you feel brighter when you see them, pay attention to the first things you see and whenever possible include colour in your environment and dress.
Also, if you happen to be a writer, don’t forget to include things your characters love to look at in your manuscript too.
Focus and see what happens. I’ll be back next time with sense of touch.

I agree so much with this, although it’s something I think I take for granted. It’s such a good idea to include it in my fictional character’s daily routine…you’ve got me thinking now. Thank you! Ang
