This week I’m joined by author, Lucy Mitchell. Her new novel, Every Time We Touch was published by Boldwood Books on 23 May 2026. I asked Lucy to tell blog readers something unusual about herself as a writer and she certainly does that in this post!!!

One morning in January 2025, an email pinged into my inbox from a second-hand furniture mailing list I had never heard of, let alone subscribed to. Normally, I’d delete it, but the title – Antique Writing Bureau – Must Go Today, called out to me.
I needed a new writing desk, but I hadn’t started looking because we were decorating.
There was something captivating about the bureau.
Within an hour, I had bought the bureau, and I was sent a photo of it looking… smug. It knew it had found its next victim.

It was delivered at night. The delivery man said he had got lost, but I think the bureau wanted to be unloaded under the silver light of a full moon.
From the moment it arrived, it started creaking, sighing and judging.
Every time I sat down to write something sensible, grounded and perfectly normal, I would feel a shiver down my spine. My fingers would then betray me and type something magical.
Life with my haunted bureau is never dull. Things go missing a lot, and I know it is interfering. It loves to make important Post-it notes and journals (filled with ideas it doesn’t like) vanish.
It has opinions too:
“Your stroppy heroine is suspiciously familiar.”
“In my day, deadlines arrived by horseback, giving a lady time to panic properly”
Maybe every writer needs something a little haunted. Something that creaks, rattles and steals Post-it notes to keep the magic alive.
It reminds me that writing is supposed to be a little magical, a little chaotic and occasionally haunted by furniture with strong Victorian opinions.
The idea for my new book – Every Time We Touch – was given to me by my bureau. It’s publishing on 23 May 2026 by Boldwood Books.
About Every Time We Touch by Lucy Mitchell

Love is not about how it ends. It’s about choosing how to live…
Bookseller Nelly Blake has a secret. When she touches someone, she sees exactly how their love story will end. The cheating, the ghosting, the awkward letdowns in coffee shops — it’s all laid bare in vivid, unwanted visions. She’s seen every kind of romantic disaster and has concluded the safest option is to stay single forever. No touching. No dating. No love.
But after a brutal rent hike and her beloved Aunt Polly’s cancer diagnosis, Nelly is forced to take on a flatmate to make ends meet. Enter Oliver James — bestselling romance author and recently heartbroken man hiding more than just his actual name.
Then Nelly accidentally touches him… and sees nothing. No ending. No heartbreak. No clue. And that terrifies her more than anything.
As Oliver begins to believe in love again, Nelly must decide whether to keep hiding behind endings — or risk everything for a story she can’t predict.
